据专业调查表明，在20－64岁的中国人中，有16％有多个性伴侣，而在城市20－25岁的高中以上男性中，这个比例高达40％。这些人越来越清醒地认识到，跟不同的人会有不同的性行为，性并不是一件简单的事。“那个妖精有什么好？”妻子因丈夫的婚外恋受到伤害，都会这样质问丈夫。著名学者潘绥铭认为，情人与妻子有很多方面不一样，性方面的差异是导致婚外恋的一个很重要的因素。潘教授举了个最极端的例子。他说：“那些去嫖娼去找‘小姐’的男士，他们到底去找什么呢？不但结了婚，而且老婆还很喜欢过性生活，为什么还要嫖娼？”潘教授分析，这些人寻求的是另外一种性。他们付费给“小姐”后，就可以“撒野”，得到不同的性感受。潘教授提出，夫妻双方应该注重做爱的方式和情调，妻子可以给丈夫机会，让他和自己做爱时可以“撒野”；同样丈夫也可以给妻子机会，让妻子“撒野”。他认为，虽然绝大多数的女同志不会接受向“小姐”们学习的做法，可是在现实生活中，这种做法确实有“一点点”道理。他说“我们并不学习她们的道德、她们的性态度，但在性生活方面，的确有普通女性值得借鉴之处。”
