　　假如你烦腻了旋律单调而肤浅的大众流行音乐，又无法在一个安静的夜晚聆听古典交响曲的意境，正在苦于寻找一种具有品质的音乐，并能够符合你自己的喜好。一种带着一点情调和艺术，活泼而不必像古典音乐那样需要正襟危坐的严肃的音乐，那么也许你可以选择蓝调。
　　从摇滚[Rock and Roll]到爵士[Jazz]，从节奏布鲁斯[R&B，Rhythm and Blues]到嘻哈[Hip-Hop]，现代流行音乐的各种类型，不论如何追根溯源，他们最后终究指向一个共同的本源，蓝调[Blues]。蓝调音乐始于二十世纪初美国的南部。本为贫苦黑人劳动时呐喊的短曲，而其中亦混合了在教会中类似朗诵形式的节奏及韵律。这种音乐有一种很明显的特式，便是使用类似中国民俗唱山歌的“一呼一应”的形式进行，英文叫作“Call and Reponse”。乐句起初会给人们一种紧张、哭诉，无助的感觉，然后接着的乐句便像是在安慰、舒解受苦的人。就好象受苦的人向上帝哭诉，而其后得到上帝的安慰与响应！ 在2003年蓝调度过了它的百岁生日。
　　所以蓝调音乐很着重自我情感的宣泄和原创性或即兴性，这种即兴式的演奏方法，后来慢慢地演变为各种不同类形的音乐，如Rock and Roll、 Swing、Jazz......所以蓝调亦是现代流行音乐的根源。至于口琴被广泛用于蓝调音乐中是起始于约二十年代中，那时候在美国当地有很多街头艺人表演音乐，他们常用乐器是五弦琴、鼓、和一种叫“pan quill pipes”的吹奏乐器。而由于结他和口琴的性能比这些传统乐器好和更适合于空犷的地方表演，所以渐渐地口琴便常被用作吹奏蓝调音乐。
